My Personal Wine Experience

My name is Tim McDonald and this is my first blog entry where I will detail my personal experience with wine as well as what I hope to learn about wine in this course. My wine experience is primarily drinking cheap wine in order to get drunk. From trying a few wines I found my favorite to be pink Moscato. At one point I tried pink Moscato from a few different brands to determine which I liked the best, I am pretty sure I chose Barefoot, but I don't remember for sure. I have also tried boxed Franzia wine which was better than I expected, but still not very good. I have very limited experience with white wines, but I have enjoyed the fortified and sparkling wines I have tried, for the most part, especially Champagne. I have also tried some wine at home with meals without trying to get drunk. These have primarily been dry reds I believe, but I am not sure. For the most part, I have not enjoyed the fancy wines I have tried at home.

From my personal wine experience and limited knowledge, it is hard to articulate exactly what kinds of wine I like the most, which has slowed down my wine tasting journey as it is hard to know which types of wine are similar to wines I like and which aren't. I believe that I prefer sweet wines to dry wines when it comes to reds. I have too little experience with white wine to say anything definitive about what I like. I have really enjoyed the sparkling wines I have tried, but am not sure how sparkling wines differ from each other. In regards to fortified wines, I have only tried a few and I don't remember which ones, but I do believe I liked them all.

In this class, I primarily hope to expand my wine palette. I hope to achieve this by trying more different types of wines and keeping track of what I thought about them. I also hope to learn how to describe wine characteristics so that I am able to find other wines with these characterisitcs that I am likely to enjoy.
